Energy Optimisation Exercise

September 9, 2025

Do you ever notice how uplifting and energising it is to hear your favourite dance tune, or to see an inspirational work of art, or to feel satisfied for a job well done?

That’s because not all energy is physical – like the short term burst you might get from eating a bar of chocolate. Much of it is driven by your thoughts and the emotional response that ensues.

Some of this can be uplifting, but it can also be draining.

This reflection exercise will help you create awareness around what gives you energy, and what drains it – so you can make meaningful choices that affect not only your performance, but your wellbeing and ability to enjoy life to its fullest.

Instructions

  • Grab a pen and paper and recreate the worksheet below, or download a copy of the worksheet here.
  • On the left hand side, write down things that give you energy. This can be under key categories such as environments, people, behaviours, beliefs, mindsets etc. Whatever resonates with you.
  • On the right hand side, list things that drain your energy in the same categories.
  • Pick 2 on the left and commit to doing more of them this week.
  • pick 2 on the right and commit to striking them out of your life – at least for this week.
  • Notice what happens to your energy levels and adjust accordingly for the weeks moving forward.
